JimSlater

On Thursday, the Winnipeg Jets announced forward Jim Slater underwent surgery to fix a sports hernia and would be out of action indefinitely.

Slater, 30, has spent his entire nine-year career with the Thrashers/Jets organization, and scored a career-high 13 goals in the club’s first season in Winnipeg.

The former first-round pick (30th overall, 2002) had appeared in eight games this year, registering one assist while averaging close to 11 minutes per night.

Slater is in the second year of a three-year, $4.8 million extension signed with the Jets in 2012.
