Henrik Lundqvist’s nagging injury will keep him out of the New York Rangers lineup for a second straight game, according to the Bergen Record.
Although he reiterated that if this was April he would be playing, the Rangers will instead give rookie Cam Talbot his second straight start. Talbot turned aside 25 of 27 shots against the Philadelphia Flyers in a 2-1 defeat on Thursday.
While it might not be April, these games matter to the Rangers. They are just 2-6-0 so far this season as they wrap up their painfully long nine-game road trip with a contest in Detroit. They will finally be allowed to make their home debut in the newly renovated Madison Square Garden on Monday.
The hope is that Lundqvist will be available for that game as, win or lose tonight, the Rangers attempt to put this rough stretch away from home behind them.
Meanwhile, the Rangers don’t have an update on Rick Nash’s recovery from a concussion. That being said, it’s probably not a great sign that coach Alain Vigneault hasn’t even asked about Nash’s status in “four or five days.”
