Devils’ Elias to miss second straight with illness ‘more significant than just a flu’

There’s some concern coming from New Jersey about the health of Patrik Elias.

The veteran winger, who sat out Saturday’s 4-0 win over the Rangers, is still not feeling well and didn’t travel with the team to Columbus for Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jackets.

“I’m not sure what it is,” Devils coach Peter DeBoer told NorthJersey.com about the illness, one that’s also kept Elias from practicing. “But [it’s] obviously more significant than just a flu.”

While missing a pair of games to not feeling well isn’t normally cause for alarm, Elias’ history makes it a tad more concerning.

Back in 2005, Elias contracted hepatitis A (it was believed he contracted it while playing in Russia during the lockout).

The illness saw him lose 30 pounds as he was hospitalized in his native Czech Republic for almost a month.
