The New Jersey Devils are off to a nice start on the scoreboard with a 2-0 early lead against the New York Rangers, but even then, there have been losses in the form of injuries. Steve Bernier took a puck to the face and hasn’t returned since while Bryce Salvador needed help off the ice after crashing into the boards.
Update: Bernier actually managed to return in the second period, but Salvador hasn’t yet. Another update: good news for Devils fans: Salvador returned, too.
The Bergen Record’s Tom Gulitti described Salvador’s fall as “back-first” into the boards, leaving him flexing his left leg. Benoit Pouliot delivered the hit.
The Devils came into Saturday a little banged up to begin with, as Damien Brunner was out with upper-body “soreness” and Patrik Elias missed time with the flu.
New Jersey continues to search for its first win, but it might just come at a cost. (If it comes, of course.)
