Blue Jackets summon former first-round pick Skille

Jack Skille

Sean Collins’ brief stint in the NHL is over. The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that the 24-year-old forward has been returned to AHL Springfield and Jack Skille will fill the vacated roster spot.

Skille was taken by the Chicago Blackhawks with the seventh overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, but he wasn’t able to firmly establish himself with the squad. Eventually Chicago traded him to the Florida Panthers in a deal that also involved Michael Frolik joining the Blackhawks. Skille scored eight goals and 24 points in 99 games over parts of three seasons with Florida.

The 26-year-old forward was a restricted free agent this summer and inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Collins is in his second full campaign as a pro after spending four seasons with Cornell University. He had 11 goals and 31 points in 64 AHL games in 2012-13.
