Report: Reimer in, Bernier out for Leafs’ season opener

jamesreimergetty

The Toronto Maple Leafs seem primed to start holdover James Reimer instead of new addition Jonathan Bernier in their season opener against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun and RDS’ Francois Gagnon report.

It’s worth noting that the Leafs could change course anytime between now and puck drop, but assuming that this sticks, it’s an interesting turn.

Will it quiet those who believe that Reimer, 25, received a raw deal from Leafs management? Maybe not, but it shows that Toronto’s brass might give Reimer more of a chance to grab the No. 1 job from Bernier, also 25.

Of course, it might not be that big of a deal at all; it’s a long season, so this situation could seesaw back and forth depending on each netminder’s hot and cold streaks.

If you want to read more about one of the 2013-14 season’s most fascinating platoon situations, check out this post from August.
