NHL commish says sides hope to complete Panthers sale quickly

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman wouldn’t go deep into specifics - he didn’t name the potential new owners - but he told ESPN that the Florida Panthers sale is “on track” on Monday.

“I know the two parties are working very hard on the transaction. They’re going to try to consummate that as quickly as possible,” Bettman said.

ESPN reports that a Panthers sale could be completed as early as sometime in October if there aren’t unexpected complications.

The rule of team sales has to be noted: these situations can turn sharply, often out of nowhere (such as with the Phoenix Coyotes for years). Of course, quite a few have worked out largely outside of the public eye and seemingly pretty smoothly, so we’ll see how it goes.

Bettman seems optimistic (if vague), though.
