P.K., Malcolm Subban go head-to-head tonight in Montreal

PK Malcolm

One of the league’s most storied rivalries will write a new chapter on Monday night at the Bell Center.

For the first time at the NHL level, brothers P.K. and Malcolm Subban will face each other when the Habs host the Bruins in Montreal.

P.K., the eldest of the Subban brothers at 24, will be one of the Montreal regulars in the lineup (Max Pacioretty and Carey Price will also dress).

The team is looking to rebound from Sunday’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Sabres, a game in which Montreal iced a remarkably young lineup -- “we had six or seven guys who could still be playing junior,” said head coach Michel Therrien.

Malcolm, Boston’s first-round selection at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, will get the start for the Bruins in his first extended look at the NHL level.

After spending three years in goal for OHL Belleville, Malcolm is expected to challenge for a gig with AHL Providence this season, though he’ll be in tough battling with Niklas Svedberg, the league’s reigning goalie of the year.

Malcolm is expected to split tonight’s game with Chad Johnson, signed from Phoenix during the summer that’s projected to be Tuukka Rask’s backup this season.
