The Columbus Blue Jackets have inked tough guy Jared Boll to a three-year, $5.1 million contract extension, the club announced on Friday.

The dollar figure, as reported by the Columbus Dispatch, means Boll will carry an average annual cap hit of $1.7 million, up from the $1.05 million he made on his last deal.

“Jared Boll has invested a great deal of himself in this organization and community and we are very happy that he will continue to be an important part of our hockey club,” Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement. “He brings toughness, determination and a great work ethic to our team and has become an important leader for us both on and off the ice.”

Boll, 27, has spent his entire six-year career with the Jackets and is sits fourth on the franchise’s all-time games played list (388).

He’s also a pretty good fighter, as evident by his franchise-leading 963 career penalty minutes.
