Lupul (back spasms) sits out Leafs camp Thursday

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul hopes to get over that Game 7 collapse, prove that his Olympic snub was ill-advised and justify his big contract extension next season, but to do so, he needs to stay healthy. So far, he’s off to a shaky start.

Thanks to back spasms that occurred on Tuesday, the 29-year-old was unable to participate in the team’s first day of on-ice activities on Thursday, according to TSN.

On the bright side, head coach Randy Carlyle doesn’t think it’s a significant issue.

“He’s had some back issues before, so we don’t think it’s anything long term,” Carlyle said. “It’s just precautionary measures to make sure that he’s 100 percent.”

Lupul wasn’t the only guy who was too banged up to take part in the practice. Enforcer Colton Orr is likely out at least the rest of this week with a bone bruise on his leg while prospects Matt Finn and Kenny Ryan didn’t skate, either.
