Sharks re-sign former first-rounder Petrecki

The San Jose Sharks have re-upped with defenseman Nick Petrecki on a one-year deal, the club announced on Tuesday.

Petrecki, 24, was the San Jose’s first-round pick (28th overall) at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft -- 15 spots ahead of fellow defenseman P.K. Subban, who was selected by Montreal.

Petrecki’s time with the club has been spent almost exclusively in the AHL, as he’s appeared in 242 games with the Sharks’ affiliate in Worcester. He did, however, make his NHL debut last season, playing nearly 12 minutes in a 3-2 win over Anaheim last January.

In 2011-12, Petrecki was awarded the 2012 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, given to the AHL man of the year for service in his local community.
