Murray takes Habs’ rich heritage seriously

Douglas Murray’s explanation for why the Montreal Canadiens decided to sign him is as simple as his rugged game.

But what - besides the obvious “money” answer - motivated him to join the Habs? Montreal’s incredible legacy was a huge drawing point for the 33-year-old grandson of Hockey Hall of Famer Lasse Bjorn, as he told the team’s Web site on Friday.

“It’s the most historic franchise in the league and an Original Six team. I take history very seriously with my grandfather being a big part of hockey history in Sweden,” Murray said. “As a little kid I was always riding with him when he played for the national team and he played for the most decorated franchise, Djurgardens, here in Sweden. That makes this very special.”

Perhaps Murray could echo Larry Robinson by checking someone so hard that it dents the boards, then?
