Luongo finally speaks -- and reveals he tried to void his contract

Roberto Luongo

Some stunning stuff on Friday morning from TSN’s James Duthie, who has scored one of the most sought-after hockey interviews of the summer -- Roberto Luongo.

The Canucks goalie, who has gone silent since the draft-day stunner that saw Cory Schneider get dealt to New Jersey, told Duthie that, in May, he had serious discussions with the NHLPA about trying to void his 12-year, $64 million contract -- which has nine years and $40.5 million left on it.

MORE: Luongo: ‘My contract sucks’

Duthie notes that Luongo’s interview, the first he’s granted this offseason, will air on TSN tonight and tomorrow in what promises to be a must-watch.

Here are a few of the other teasers the NHL on TSN host dropped via Twitter:

Luongo will report to Canucks training camp, and says he is extremely motivated, but remains uncertain about his future in Van.

Luongo: “I had moved on from Vancouver and was ready to start fresh somewhere else...like a divorce...except she wanted me back.”

Luongo also talks about breaking down after not being dealt at deadline and “blacking out” when he learned VAN had traded Schneider.
