It’s Edmonton Oilers day on PHT and as it happens, one of their unrestricted free agents recently agreed to terms with a Swiss League squad, accord to the Edmonton Journal.

Lennart Petrell was drafted in 2004 by the Columbus Blue Jackets, but he never made their team and instead was forging a successful career for himself with HIFK Helsinki of the Finnish League. Then the Edmonton Oilers gave him a shot to show what he could do at the NHL level.

Armed with a one-year, two-way deal, Petrell had nine points and 45 penalty minutes in 60 Oilers games in 2011-12 while serving primarily as a fourth liner. Edmonton handed him a one-way deal for the 2012-13 campaign and he went on to record three goals and six assists in 35 contests.

The 29-year-old also earned an invite to Finland’s Olympic orientation camp.

All the same, the Oilers weren’t looking to retain him for a third season and Petrell said he wasn’t able to get any offers from other NHL clubs. As a result, he’ll head to Geneva.
