Ducks re-sign Palmieri: three years, $4.4 million

The Anaheim Ducks have agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Kyle Palmieri -- a three-year, $4.4 million deal with an average annual cap hit of $1.47 million.

Palmieri, 22, enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2013.

He scored a career-best 21 points in 42 games and finished sixth on the team in goals, with 10. He also tied for third on the Ducks in playoff scoring, with five points in seven games during an opening-round loss to Detroit.

Anaheim’s first-round pick (26th overall) at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Palmieri is part of a youth movement that should have fans in Orange Country excited for the future.

The club has nine top-45 draft picks since 2009 under contract -- Palmieri, Peter Holland, Mat Clark, Cam Fowler, Emerson Etem, Devante Smith-Pelley, Rickard Rakell, John Gibson and Hampus Lindholm -- and just acquired two more prospects from Ottawa in the Bobby Ryan trade: Jakob Silfverberg (19 points in 48 games last year) and Stefan Noesen (21st overall, 2011 NHL Entry Draft).

In May, the Ducks also signed reigning Swedish league rookie of the year William Karlsson, second-round pick (53rd overall) at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
