Patrick named assistant coach of Stars

James Patrick

Former NHL defenseman James Patrick has been named an assistant coach of the Dallas Stars, the club announced today.

Patrick will work under new Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff, as he did in Buffalo from 2006 until Ruff was fired by the Sabres in February.

Patrick’s services were not retained by the Sabres following the 2013 campaign.

Now 50 years old, Patrick played 1,280 regular-season games in the NHL for the Rangers, Whalers, Flames and Sabres.

Early in his NHL career, he was chosen to represent a victorious Team Canada at the 1987 Canada Cup, remembered to this day as one of the best international hockey tournaments ever.
