Preds sign Clune to two-year, $1.7 million extension

Rich Clune

The Nashville Predators announced today that they’ve signed forward Rich Clune to a two-year, $1.7 million contract extension that will pay him $850,000 in both 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Clune, 26, was a pending unrestricted free agent who last year scored four goals and five assists in 47 games while amassing team highs in penalty minutes (113) and hits (159).

The commitment from the Preds is especially encouraging given he’s faced substance-abuse problems in the past, as documented in March by ESPN’s Scott Burnside.

Clune was claimed on waivers by Nashville on Jan. 15.
