Nathan Horton has undergone successful shoulder surgery, the Columbus Blue Jackets announced today.
“Nathan’s surgery went very well and he is expected to make a full recovery after completing his rehabilitation program,” said Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen in a release.
Horton had the operation done at the Boston Shoulder Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital.
His expected recovery period remains 4-6 months, meaning he’ll miss at least the first couple of months of the 2013-14 NHL season.
Columbus signed the 28-year-old forward to a seven-year, $37.1 million contract on July 5.
Horton reportedly had a chronic shoulder injury dating back to his time with Florida. He re-injured it during a fight against Jarome Iginla in April, then tweaked it again during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against Chicago.
