Pittsburgh signs D’Agostini: one year, $550,000

D'Agostini

The Pittsburgh Penguins have made an interesting move at forward, signing former Montreal, St. Louis and New Jersey forward Matt D’Agostini to a one-year, $550,000 deal.

D’Agostini, 26, has two very solid NHL seasons on his resume. In 2008-09, he scored 12 goals and 21 points in just 53 games for the Canadiens, and appeared in three postseason contests.

In 2010-11, he posted a career-high 21 goals and 46 points in 82 games with the Blues, finishing third on the team in tallies behind David Backes and Patrik Berglund.

The last two years, however, have been filled with disappointment.

D’Agostini fell out of favor in St. Louis during the 2011-12 campaign, and was shipped to New Jersey this past March.

He failed to make much of an impact with the Devils, scoring just four points in 13 games, and wasn’t tendered a qualifying offer by the club in late June.

With the signing, D’Agostini becomes the 12th Pittsburgh forward under contract for 2013-14, though the club still has RFA Dustin Jeffrey to deal with.
