We could find out by the end of the week whether Daniel Alfredsson will continue his NHL playing career, or if he will retire.
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Senators general manager Bryan Murray will have an answer from Alfredsson as to his future by Friday and that he feels Alfredsson will play.
The 40-year-old Alfredsson finished the lockout-shortened season with 10 goals and 26 points in 47 regular season games, but was operating at a point-per-game clip in the playoffs.
The Senators’ captain had 10 points in 10 playoff games, before Ottawa was bounced by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round.
Earlier this month, Alfredsson won the 2012-13 Mark Messier Leadership Award, but said the process of making a decision about his career “hasn’t really started yet.”
Alfredsson is at the end of a four-year, $19.5 million contract that had him at a cap hit of $4.875 million.
