Reports: Vigneault gets five-year, $10 million contract to coach Rangers

In news first reported by TVA Sports’ Louis Jean, the New York Rangers and head coach Alain Vigneault have agreed on a five-year contract worth $10 million.

Sportsnet’s John Shannon has since confirmed the deal, adding that it was the same one Dallas offered Vigneault. (The Stars have yet to fill their coaching vacancy.)

For Vigneault, the money and term is testament to the reputation he built in Vancouver, where the Canucks won the Presidents’ Trophy twice and went to the playoffs six times in the seven seasons he was behind the bench.

The one thing Vigneault failed to do in Vancouver, however, was win a Stanley Cup, and that’s ultimately what led to his firing in May.
