Concerns over officiating in these Stanley Cup playoffs continue to persist.
Another example of the confusing standard being set by NHL referees this post-season came in Thursday’s Game 5 between the L.A. Kings and San Jose Sharks.
Sharks forward Jason Demers slashed the stick of Kings’ defenseman Drew Doughty, breaking the stick. There was no penalty called on the play, leaving Doughty incensed.
Typically, this is called for a penalty - or provides what former NHL official Kerry Fraser wrote in a TSN blog post in March called the “‘smoking gun’ for referees to assess a penalty.”
