Brad Richards will be a healthy scratch tonight when his New York Rangers face elimination at Madison Square Garden versus the Boston Bruins.
Richards -- he of the nine-year, $60 million contract signed less than two years ago -- told reporters that New York head coach John Tortorella called him this morning with the news he wasn’t playing.
Skating on the fourth line, Richards, 33, played just 8:10 during Tuesday’s Game 3 loss at MSG. That compares to the 22:14 he played in Game 1 of the first round versus Washington.
In 10 playoff games, Richards has one goal and no assists.
If you’re curious -- and lots of people are -- a Richards buyout would cost the Rangers $24 million spread over 14 years.
