Mike Ashmore of The Trentonian reports the Trenton Titans, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, will cease operations for the 2013-14 season with the opportunity to return in the 2014-15 season.
According to the report, the team struggled financially and players wondered if they would even see paychecks or if they’d clear towards the end of the season. Had the Titans made the playoffs there were questions as to how they’d pay for travel. With worries like that it’s no wonder the team is taking a break for at least a season.
It’s not the first time an ECHL team in Trenton has had problems as the Trenton Devils folded up shop after the 2010-11 season. Financial issues in the ECHL aren’t anything new, but maybe this is just a sign that things just aren’t going to work in New Jersey’s capital city.
