Brian Boyle’s misfortune is Chris Kreider’s gain.
That was the story out of New York on Wednesday, as the Rangers announced they called up Kreider from AHL Connecticut.
The move comes after Boyle suffered a right leg injury during a 4-2 loss to Philly on Tuesday.
Boyle was hurt on a hit by Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn with 6:09 to play in the first period, and didn’t return to the contest.
After the game he appeared to be wearing a brace underneath his suit pants, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.
So, sounds like Boyle will be replaced by Kreider in the lineup on Thursday when the Rangers take on Florida.
Kreider, 21, was sent back to Connecticut on Apr. 3 and has since appeared in six games for the Whale, scoring 1G-3A.
In 17 games with the Rangers this season, he’s posted 2G-1A.
