Capitals push streak to eight wins as Ovechkin’s hot streak continues

capscelegetty

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals continued their blistering run on Tuesday. The streaking star pushed his league-leading goals total to 28 while his team won its eighth game in a row thanks to an impressive 5-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

If you need more evidence that the “old” Ovechkin is back, witness the one-timer he fired to score that goal on the power play tonight:

Yup, that’s what fans came to expect and opponents learned to fear from the 27-year-old, who did more than just score an emphatic goal in this game.

The Capitals now have at least a momentary six-point lead against the Winnipeg Jets for the Southeast Division lead, although the Jets could very well pull to within four if they hold onto a lead against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Either way, Washington is red-hot, making them an interesting under-the-radar playoff contender (while Ovechkin builds his Hart Trophy case).
