The Phoenix Coyotes find themselves in a three-way tie in points with the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blues Jackets, but still two points back of the Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference playoff race.
The Coyotes secured one point Friday, but not two, losing 3-2 in overtime to the Calgary Flames, who are 3-7-0 in their last 10 games and battling it out with the Colorado Avalanche in the bottom of the conference standings.
Not the desired result, especially after Phoenix jumped out to an early lead less than two minutes into the game. Perhaps they took the struggling Flames a little too lightly.
“We were trying to be a little too lackadaisical, too relaxed with the puck, trying to be cute,” Coyotes captain Shane Doan told the Associated Press.
“Scoring a goal early was big but it almost put you back into the kind of relaxed state instead of being aggressive. We can’t have that happen.”
