Letang (broken toe) skates, could return Tuesday

Kris Letang

Injured Penguins defenseman Kris Letang (broken toe) skated by himself today in Pittsburgh and appears close to returning to the lineup.

Letang will miss his fifth straight game tonight against the Rangers, but Tribune-Review reporter Josh Yohe expects him to play Tuesday in Carolina.

The Penguins have missed the 25-year-old Norris Trophy candidate. In its last two games, both losses, Pittsburgh has been outscored 10-2.

The Pens are also without injured defenseman Paul Martin (wrist), forcing the likes of Deryk Engelland, Simon Despres and Robert Bortuzzo into bigger roles.
