San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle decided to channel his inner Bobby Orr on Wednesday.
Boyle picked up the puck in his own end during a five-on-three Sharks power play, gathered speed through the neutral zone, zipped past Minnesota Wild defender Ryan Suter and then deked to the backhand on Niklas Backstrom. A thing of beauty.
All part of a 4-2 victory for the Sharks, winners in six straight hockey games.
“I was going to drop it, probably at the red line,” Boyle told the San Jose Mercury News. “But I just changed my mind and I’m glad I did.”
Words don’t quite do it justice.
