The San Jose Sharks are bringing a familiar face back into the fold -- Scott Hannan.

Hannan, San Jose’s first-round pick in 1997, has been acquired from the Nashville Predators for a conditional sixth-/seventh-round pick, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.

The 34-year-old rearguard spent eight seasons in San Jose before signing with Colorado in 2007.

After three-and-a-half years in Denver, Hannan was acquired by Washington and has since played for Calgary (2011-12) and Nashville .

In his prime, Hannan was considered a gritty, physical, shut-down defenseman that represented San Jose at the 2003-04 All-Star game. He was also named to Team Canada for the 2004 World Cup.

Hannan has appeared in 29 games for the Preds this year, notching one point while averaging 19:30 TOI per game.

His one-year, $1 million deal will expire at the end of this season.
