The reported new deal for Oilers defenseman Ladislav Smid was confirmed today, with the club announcing it’s signed the 27-year-old to a four-year, $14 million contract extension.
Smid -- a defensive defenseman -- has one goal and three assists in 34 games, while averaging just over 20 minutes a game.
The ninth overall pick in the 2004 draft, Smid came to Edmonton from Anaheim as part of the Chris Pronger trade in 2006.
