Maybe Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman was reading PHT late last night?
Because...
“Marty St. Louis is not going to be traded,” Yzerman told ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun today. “He remains one of the best players in the league and an extremely important player to our team, both on and off the ice. We are a team in transition, we just made a coaching change, Marty is one of the leaders of the team, he is not going anywhere.”
St. Louis is signed through 2014-15 with a cap hit of $5.625 million. Even at 37 years old, he’s still producing at a point-per-game rate, thanks in large part to his favorite passing target, Steven Stamkos.
And as LeBrun notes, St. Louis is “so much more to the Tampa organization than what he does on the ice.”
