Apparently Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros’ miserable, injury-ravaged season took another sour turn. The team reports that he re-injured his shoulder during Tuesday’s 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers, leaving him out indefinitely.
In other words, while Peter Laviolette says the team’s season isn’t over, it’s likely that the Slovakian blueliner is done in 2012-13.
The 27-year-old has fallen far from a borderline “iron man” status, as the Flyers Web site adeptly explains:
It has been a trying calendar year for the Flyers defenseman who used to own an iron man streak of games played only to suffer a back injury that required surgery last March, a ruptured Achilles tendon that required surgery in July and a pair of shoulder injuries this season.
Fellow frequently injured defenseman Erik Gustafsson has been recalled in Meszaros’ absence.
