Ovechkin, Caps stay hot; Rangers fall again

Sunday’s game between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers seemed to present two teams - and stars - going in two very different directions.

The Caps are now on a three-game winning streak thanks to tonight’s 3-2 shootout win and Alex Ovechkin’s torrid run is almost as promising. Ovechkin now has a five-game point (and goal) streak, with six goals and three assists for nine points. He also has 11 points in his last seven contests.

In other words, the “good feelings” continue for the 27-year-old and his team.

The same cannot be said for Henrik Lundqvist and the struggling Rangers.

Lundqvist admitted to ESPN’s Katie Strang that it hurt to allow that extra point to slip away.

“This one hurt,” Lundqvist said. “Right now we need two points, not just one.”

With that loss, the Rangers are now in a tenuous spot in eighth place in the East with 33 points. They’re just a bit ahead of the fading Carolina Hurricanes (32 points) and those increasingly threatening Capitals (and the New York Islanders) at 31.
