The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired forward Matthew Ford in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for future considerations.
Prior to the trade, Ford had 13 points in 35 games for AHL Adirondack. The 28-year-old will report to the Blue Jackets’ farm team in Springfield.
Whether this deal is a precursor to something bigger for Philly, we’ll have to wait and see. (A team can only have 50 players under contract.) Given his team’s struggles, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren made a move of significance.
On the other hand, sometimes a minor-league trade is just a minor-league trade.
