The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled goalie Jussi Rynnas from the AHL to back up Ben Scrivens while James Reimer recovers from an MCL knee strain.
Rynnas, 25, is 8-8-1 with a .913 save percentage with the Marlies this season. His play, according to head coach Dallas Eakins, has been “adequate.”
Rynnas started one game for the Leafs in 2011-12, surrendering seven goals on 30 shots in a 7-1 loss to the Flyers on March 29.
Reimer is expected to miss at least a week with his injury. The Leafs have back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday in Florida and Tampa Bay, respectively, so it’s possible Rynnas could see some action.
