PHT Morning Skate: Where Logan Couture is ready for the Super Bowl

Couture-Kaepernicking

PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

When Logan Couture scored his fourth goal of the season last night, he showed Bay Area fans he was ready to see the 49ers roll to victory by “Kaepernicking” to celebrate. Yes, this is a thing now. Too bad Couture is a renowned Bills fan. The Sharks beat Edmonton in a shootout 3-2. (CSNBayArea.com)

Looks like the Panthers rediscovered winning at the right time. Marcel Goc is already back and Stephen Weiss will be back in action on Sunday. (Miami Herald)

Poor Phil Kessel. He’s still without a goal even after the Leafs’ comeback win over the Capitals despite being robbed by Michal Neuvirth and missing an empty net. He’s at least getting his chances. (Toronto Sun)

Bruins coach Claude Julien called the team’s defense “brain dead” after giving up seven goals to the Sabres. (CSNNE.com)

Meanwhile, the after effects of Shawn Thornton getting KO’ed by John Scott see the Boston tough guy being evaluated for injury today. (CSNNE.com)

Junior-eligible rookie forward Mark Scheifele was scratched for the fourth straight game last night by coach Claude Noel. You know, maybe it’s time to send him back to the OHL. (Winnipeg Free Press)
