Bruins confirm Dougie Hamilton will stay in NHL

Dougie Hamilton

The Boston Bruins made it official on Monday: rookie Dougie Hamilton will stick with the big club beyond the five-game mark that burns a year of an entry-level contract. He won’t be demoted to the junior level.

The promising 19-year-old defenseman will suit up for the B’s against the Hurricanes in Carolina tonight.

It makes plenty of sense that GM Peter Chiarelli opted to keep him in the NHL.

Hamilton has three assists and 11 shots on goal in his four contests, but it’s the way he’s being used that’s especially promisng. He’s averaging 18:04 minutes per night so far, including an average of 3:19 on the struggling power play.

That indicates Hamilton is an asset, rather than just someone getting his feet wet on the NHL level.
