The New York Islanders have announced that head coach Jack Capuano will return to the bench Monday after missing Saturday’s season opener due to kidney stones.

Capuano, 50, was out of hospital on Sunday and cleared by doctors Monday morning.

His return to action means an end to Doug Weight’s brief stint as acting head coach. Weight, 41, took the reins over the weekend in a 2-1 loss to the Devils, his second time filling in for Capuano on an emergency basis.

Last February, Weight filled in as head coach while Capuano was out with the flu (the Isles lost the Sabres, 2-1.)
