Philadelphia Flyers prospect Ben Holmstrom will need between four to six months to recover from knee surgery, according to the team.

(The Flyers deem it an “ACL reconstruction.”)

The Flyers signed Holmstrom to an entry-level deal in 2010 after seeing him produce some strong work at the NCAA level with UMass Lowell.

He’s still attempting to work his way into the squad’s regular rotation, having played in five games last season and two during the 2010-11 campaign.

The two-way forward isn’t the only young player in the organization whose health has become a recent issue. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sam Carchidi reports that defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon is dealing with a concussion.
