San Jose defenseman Douglas Murray has decided to part ways with Swedish second division club Djurgardens, according to HockeyAllsvenskan.com.

The veteran rearguard no longer appears on the team roster and is believed to be returning to North America in the near future.

Murray, 32, appeared in 14 games for Djurgardens, scoring 1G-2A-3PTS while racking up 36 penalty minutes. The signing received a lot of attention in Sweden as Murray used to play for the club at the junior level before leaving to play prep hockey in North America in 1997 (he’d later play four years at Cornell before signing with the Sharks.)

The timing of Murray’s departure has raised a few eyebrows.

Aside from the fact CBA negotiations have heated up in recent days, there’s also the not-so-tiny fact that Gabriel Landeskog -- the reigning Calder Trophy winner -- left Djurgarden earlier this week.

Landeskog and Murray join a list of other notable players that have recently returned from their European excursions: Tuukka Rask, Jason Chimera, Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds, most notably.
