Bill Daly “more discouraged now” than ever

Bill Daly

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly is “more discouraged now” than he’s ever been during the CBA negotiations, according to an email he sent the Canadian Press on Thursday.

He’s not wrong to be.

With no further talks between the league and players planned, communication between the two sides has reportedly been cut off entirely.

The NHL has said it’s done making proposals. Meanwhile, neither side has expressed a willingness to budge on player contracting issues.

On Wednesday, it was reported that if a deal isn’t struck in the next week, games will be canceled through Dec. 15.

The next step could be wiping out the entire season.

Fortunately, that bridge hasn’t been crossed yet and there’s still time to get back to the bargaining table.

But clearly the NHL wants the players to know that time is running out.
