After a brief stint in Switzerland, Patric Hornqvist is headed home.
Sweden, specifically.
The Nashville forward has reportedly agreed to join Allsvenskan club Djurgardens on a lockout deal, according to multiple sources (see here and here).
Hornqvist had previously been playing for the Martigny Red Ice of the Swiss second division, where he racked up 14 points in nine games played. But his recent departure -- he’s since been replaced in Martigny by Boston Bruins forward Chris Kelly -- led many to speculate he’d be joining Djurgardens, the team he represented at the junior and senior levels before moving to North America in 2008.
Today, the move became official.
Hornqvist, 25, has been one of Nashville’s most consistent goalscorers over the last three years, averaging 26 per season while posting a career-high 30 in 2009-10.
In Djurgardens, he’ll be joined by Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, San Jose defenseman Douglas Murray and future Preds teammate Pontus Aberg, taken 37th overall by Nashville at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
