Sunday’s CBA talks conclude without another meeting scheduled

Daly

The players’ union and NHL met for about five hours in their third consecutive day of CBA negotiations. Unfortunately, despite earlier speculation to the contrary, Renaud P Lavoie is reporting that there will not be a meeting Monday.

The silver lining is, as Ian Mendes put it, that the talks have not broken off. Both sides will have some internal discussions and then another meeting might take place as early as Tuesday.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA boss Donald Fehr did not participate in Sunday’s meetings.

“I think that really demonstrates...the nature of the issues’ being discussed now,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said, according to Katie Strang.

Steve Fehr said that the two sides discussed CBA legal issues and safety issues, but the subject of hockey-related revenues wasn’t raised.

The NHL regular season is scheduled to begin on Oct. 11, but obviously that start date is in serious jeopardy.
