Today’s first of two negotiating sessions between the NHL and NHLPA appears to have gone well.
Take it away, Dan Rosen of NHL.com:
NHLPA rep Mathieu Schneider said topics discussed were "health and safety issues, drug testing, training staffs, things like that."

Schneider added that there were good discussions and "we have agreements on some things." He would not specify.

Schneider said issue that dominated the morning was drug testing. He said PA's view is to possibly expand it to cover playoffs, offseason.

Schneider said it's too early to say if they'll talk core economics this weekend. He said they plan to go back to health, safety this p.m.

Obviously none of this matters if the two sides can’t agree on core economic issues, but at this point we’ll take all the good news we can get.
