Florida mascot becomes the face, or gigantic head, of the NHL lockout

Stanley C Panther

Sad news out of Sunrise today as Stanley C. Panther -- the official mascot of the Florida Panthers -- has been laid off as a result of the NHL lockout.

Florida announced a batch of layoffs on Tuesday, but didn’t specify how many employees were let go, or from what departments.

Only George Richards of the Miami Herald was able to get to the bottom of things:

#FlaPanthers have laid off mascot Stanley C Panther. This is confirmed.

I would expect #FlaPanthers to bring back guy who played Stanley C Panther back after #NHLockout...he was very entertaining

Meanwhile, Panthers President and COO Michael Yormark issued a statement on behalf of the club.

“We thank all of those former staff members for their efforts, while SSE’s human resources department has volunteered to work with these former staff members to assist them in finding new employment.

“Out of respect for both the former and current staff members, we will have no further comment at this time.”
