A lockout will have a financial impact that extends beyond just the owners and players. Nashville Mayor Karl Dean said that downtown businesses in Music City were hurt during the 2004-05 lockout.
“This is a private dispute between the players organization and the owners,” Dean said in a Tennessean report. “But what I do think both sides – and I guess the owners are the ones talking about a lockout – is that they need to stop and think about the greater good.”
Dean pointed out that the Predators employ a lot of people and there’s also plenty of people who are employed by businesses that benefit from the NHL season.
The current CBA is set to expire on Saturday, although the regular season isn’t set to start until Oct. 11.
