Darren Helm is all healed up, has gruesome scar to match

Darren Helm scar

Darren Helm saw his season ended last year thanks to a deep cut in his wrist courtesy of a skate blade. Now he’s back in Detroit and has a gruesome reminder of how close he came to suffering an even worse injury.

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press hears from Helm and finds him ready to play.

“It feels good,” Helm said of his arm. “It feels good on the ice, shooting, passing. Everything feels fine. I don’t have any pain or trouble with it. Doctors have told me it’s on track, and we kind of got past that troubled stage a long time ago.”

After signing a four-year extension over the summer, Helm comes into Wings camp looking to continue improving his game. With new-old teammate Mikael Samuelsson and totally new winger Jordin Tootoo, Helm will have his hands full whenever hockey season is set to begin.

For now, he’ll hope his newly healed arm can handle the rigors of hockey once again.
