The NHL and players’ union had two informal meetings on Friday, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that, as Zenon Konopka recently conceded, there hasn’t been a breakthrough.
“Needless to say, we remain a long way apart,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said, according to Chris Botta.
At the moment, it’s not clear when the NHL and players’ union will meet next, but the current CBA will expire on Saturday. If the two sides can not reach an agreement before that happens, then the NHL will presumably lock out the players.
“We need to hear again from the Players’ Association before this can move forward,” Daly told SportsBusiness Journal and Daily.
