Taylor Hall has signed a seven-year contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers, the club announced today.
According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the deal will pay Hall, 20, $6 million a season once it starts in 2013-14.
Hall will remain Edmonton property through 2019-20 when, based upon the current CBA, he’ll be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.
Hall scored 49 goals and 46 assists in his first two seasons since being taken first overall in the 2010 draft. But if there’s a risk for the Oilers in making such a lengthy commitment, it’s Hall’s inability to stay healthy so far in his short career. The speedy winger played just 65 games in 2010-11 and 61 in 2011-12.
With Hall under contract, the club’s next goal may be to get Jordan Eberle signed to a long-term deal.
